Whenever you purchase a website, it will be live under a pre-generated domain. If you wish to switch to a custom domain that you own, please follow the instructions below:

How to Add DNS Records for Your Custom Domain

  1. From within your DreamHost account on the left-hand side, click on the Domains link.

  2. Select Manage Domains in the Domains drop-down list.

  3. Click the DNS link beneath your domain in the list.

  4. Scroll down the page to find the Add a Custom DNS Record section.

  5. In the Name field, enter “www

  6. For the Type, choose CNAME.

  7. In the Value field, enter “

  8. Click Add Record Now!

  9. For the next record, choose A as the Type.

  10. In the Value field, enter “

  11. Click Add Record Now!

  12. For the next record, choose A as the Type.

  13. In the Value field, enter “

  14. Click Add Record Now!

With this process complete, your custom domain will now point to your website. While this may happen quickly, it can often take up to 48 hours for your registrar to propagate these new DNS settings. Please allow for the full period before attempting to edit your settings again. If your website still does not appear after this period, please contact your registrar for more information.
