This guide will walk you through how to properly assign a custom domain for your newly purchased website within DreamHost.
Whenever you purchase a website, it will be live under a pre-generated domain. If you wish to switch to a custom domain that you own, please follow the instructions below:
What You Need to Set Up Your Custom Domain
Before you can begin this process, make sure you have access to the following:
A DreamHost domain account (Click Here to login to your account)
Access to DreamHost Custom DNS Records (Click here for instructions)
How to Add DNS Records for Your Custom Domain
From within your DreamHost account on the left-hand side, click on the Domains link.
Select Manage Domains in the Domains drop-down list.
Click the DNS link beneath your domain in the list.
Scroll down the page to find the Add a Custom DNS Record section.
In the Name field, enter “www”
For the Type, choose CNAME.
In the Value field, enter “s.multiscreensite.com”
Click Add Record Now!
For the next record, choose A as the Type.
In the Value field, enter “35.172.94.1”
Click Add Record Now!
For the next record, choose A as the Type.
In the Value field, enter “100.24.208.97”
Click Add Record Now!
With this process complete, your custom domain will now point to your website. While this may happen quickly, it can often take up to 48 hours for your registrar to propagate these new DNS settings. Please allow for the full period before attempting to edit your settings again. If your website still does not appear after this period, please contact your registrar for more information.
