This guide will walk you through how to properly assign a custom domain for your newly purchased website within Ionos.

Whenever you purchase a website, it will be live under a pre-generated domain. If you wish to switch to a custom domain that you own, please follow the instructions below:

What You Need to Set Up Your Custom Domain

Before you can begin this process, make sure you have access to the following:

  • an Ionos account

  • the ability to create a CNAME record in Ionos DNS settings

How to Add DNS Records for Your Custom Domain

  1. Log in to your Ionos account.

  2. Navigate to the Domains section of the Control Panel.

Find your desired domain and click the gear icon underneath Actions. Select DNS.

  3. Click Add Record. Select CNAME and enter the following:

    Hostname: www
    Points to: s.multiscreensite.com

  4. Save your changes.

  5. Next, navigate back to your DNS list.

  6. Delete any A records that are present. Click the gear icon next to the record and click Delete Record.

  7. Click Add Record once more.

  8. Select A as the Type.

  9. Enter the following:

    Host Name: @
    Points to: 35.172.94.1

  10. Click Add Record a final time.

  11. Select A as the Type.

  12. Enter the following:

    Host: @

    Points to: 100.24.208.97

  13. Be sure to hit Save.

With this process complete, your custom domain will now point to your website. While this may happen quickly, it can often take up to 48 hours for your registrar to propagate these new DNS settings. Please allow for the full period before attempting to edit your settings again. If your website still does not appear after this period, please contact your registrar for more information.
