This guide will walk you through how to properly assign a custom domain for your newly purchased website within Bluehost.
Whenever you purchase a website, it will be live under a pre-generated domain. If you wish to switch to a custom domain that you own, please follow the instructions below:
What You Need to Set Up Your Custom Domain
Before you can begin this process, make sure you have access to the following:
A Bluehost account
Ability to create a CNAME record in Bluehost DNS settings
How to Add DNS Records for Your Custom Domain
Log in to your Bluehost hosting account.
From the side navigation menu, click on the Domains tab. Then, click on the Zone Editor option.
Select your desired domain using the dropdown box.
Scroll down to the heading titled Add DNS Record.
For the Host Record, enter "www".
Leave the TTL field as the default option.
Under Type, select CNAME.
Under Points To, enter "s.multiscreensite.com".
Click Add Record.
Next, use the dropdown titled Manage next to the domain. Select DNS.
Find and Delete any existing A Records. You can do this by clicking on the ellipses and clicking Remove.
Scroll down to A Records and click Add Record.
Enter the following:
Host Record: @
Points to: 188.8.131.52
Repeat Step 12 and add a new record with the following details:
Host Record: @
Points to: 184.108.40.206
With this process complete, your custom domain will now point to your website. While this may happen quickly, it can often take up to 48 hours for your registrar to propagate these new DNS settings. Please allow for the full period before attempting to edit your settings again. If your website still does not appear after this period, please contact your registrar for more information.
